Statement by the Honourable Bal Gosal, Minister of State (Sport), Congratulating Brian McKeever and Erik Carleton on Winning Canada's First Gold Medal at Sochi 2014 Paralympic Winter Games Français
OTTAWA, March 10, 2014 /CNW/ - On behalf of all Canadians, I would like to extend my most heartfelt congratulations to Brian McKeever and guide Erik Carleton on winning Canada's first gold medal at the Sochi 2014 Paralympic Winter Games today.
Brian McKeever and Erik Carleton, both from Canmore, Alberta, earned their gold medal in the Men's 20-km Cross-country Ski (Visually Impaired) event on the third day of competition. This is Brian's eleventh Paralympic medal overall and the first for Erik.
The outstanding performance of Brian and Erik reminds us that Canada is a top sport nation, and our Government is proud to support our athletes with the tools they need to reach the podium at every possible opportunity.
Today, Canadians across our country are filled with pride and admiration at Brian and Erik's incredible talent, drive, and strength as we celebrate this prestigious moment in their sport careers.
I wish our Canadian Paralympic Team much more success as competition continues in Sochi.
