Statement by the Honourable Bal Gosal, Minister of State (Sport), Congratulating Mark McMorris on Winning Canada's First Medal at Sochi 2014 Olympic Winter Games
SOCHI, Russia, Feb. 8, 2014 /CNW/ - On behalf of the Government of Canada, I congratulate Mark McMorris on winning Canada's first medal at the 2014 Olympic Winter Games today in Sochi, Russia.
Mark McMorris from Regina, Saskatchewan earned his bronze medal in the Men's Slopestyle event on the first day of competition. This is his first medal in this Olympic competition and first overall Olympic medal for Canada.
Along with all Canadians, I am extremely proud of Mark's outstanding performance. He has given our Canadian Olympic team a fantastic start to the Games and has set the stage for future successes as we enter day second of competition.
I am thrilled to be present in Sochi to cheer on our Canadian athletes as they compete against the world's best in sport.
Canada is a top sport nation, and each of our athlete's performances is a reflection of our country's amazing athletic talent and national pride.
It is a great honour for me, on behalf of the Government of Canada, to congratulate Mark McMorris on his achievements. Best wishes to all Canadian athletes for much success at the Games.
