Statement by the Honourable Bal Gosal, Minister of State (Sport), Congratulating the Canadian Women's Hockey Team Français
OTTAWA, April 15, 2012 /CNW/ - I would like to congratulate the Canadian women's hockey team for their victory yesterday at the 2012 IIHF World Women's Hockey Championship.
Canada brought home the gold after a close 5-4 match with the U.S. in Burlington Vermont, USA. Along with all Canadians, I am extremely proud of the outstanding performance by our team. This win soundly demonstrates that our Canadian players have the talent to compete and win against the best in the world.
Canada's women's team brought home a gold medal at the Vancouver 2010 Winter Olympic Games, but yesterday's games marks our first gold medal at the world championships since 2007. Canada's women have met the U.S. in every one of the last 14 finals of the championships starting in 1990 and their win yesterday is a result of their hard work, determination and team play.
I would like to thank the members of the Canadian women's hockey team and their Head Coach, Dan Church for providing us with such thrilling action. We wish you all the best as you continue to reach for your podium goals, cheered on by all Canadians.
