Statement by the Honourable Bal Gosal, Minister of State (Sport), on the Announcement of His Excellence David Johnston, the Governor General of Canada as Patron of the Canadian Olympic Committee

OTTAWA, June 18, 2012 /CNW/ - Congratulations to the Canadian Olympic Committee on their announcement that His Excellency David Johnston, the Governor General of Canada, is an official patron of their organization.

The Harper Government is proud to provide our continued support for Olympic sports, the Canadian Olympic Committee and our Canadian Olympic athletes, who are an enormous source of pride for all Canadians. As the largest single contributor to sport in this country, we support sport participation and excellence from playground to podium.

Anticipation is running high as we quickly approach the 2012 Olympic Summer Games in London, and we look forward to cheering on Team Canada as they take on the world's best.

As Minister of State (Sport), I wish all the best to our Canadian Olympic Team athletes as they prepare for this prestigious milestone in their sporting careers. Their hard work and dedication to sport is nothing short of inspiring.
