Statement by the Honourable Bal Gosal, Minister of State (Sport), on the Death of Clifford Cox

OTTAWA, Feb. 7, 2012 /CNW/ - It was with great sadness that I learned of the recent passing of Clifford Cox, Vice President of Cricket Canada.

Mr. Cox, who immigrated to Canada from England in 1956, was a leading figure in our nation's cricket scene, both as a player and a builder. He was captain of the Canadian national team before joining the executive board of Cricket Canada, where he served as Vice President and was an enthusiastic supporter of women's cricket.

In recognition of his service to the sport, the International Cricket Council awarded Mr. Cox with a Centenary Medal in 2009. His home league, the British Columbia Mainland Cricket League, honoured his contributions by introducing the Cliff Cox Medal, which is presented annually to the most outstanding player who also demonstrated good sportsmanship during the season.

On behalf of the Government of Canada, I extend my deepest condolences to the family and friends of Clifford Cox.
