Statement by the Honourable Bal Gosal, Minister of State (Sport), on the Death of Skier Sarah Burke Français
OTTAWA, Jan. 19, 2012 /CNW/ - On behalf of all Canadians, I would like to offer my sincere condolences to the family and friends of Sarah Burke who died today as a result of injuries sustained in a tragic superpipe accident last Tuesday in Utah.
"Sarah was an extremely talented and dedicated young athlete considered a pioneer in her main sport of freestyle halfpipe - a sport that she lobbied successfully to have included for the first time in the 2014 Sochi Winter Olympics.
"The country mourns the loss of this exceptional young Canadian skier. Her legacy will live on in the sport that she so loved and championed."
