Statement by the Honourable Bal Gosal, Minister of State (Sport), on the Occasion of Sports Day in Canada Français
OTTAWA, Sept. 29, 2012 /CNW/ - Today I am pleased to join all Canadians in celebrating the third annual Sports Day in Canada - a celebration of sport at all levels, from our youngest participants, to our inspirational world-class athletes.
As a proud supporter of this special event, our government remains committed to providing opportunities for Canadians of all ages to engage in sport and physical activity, and to benefit from an active and healthy lifestyle.
Sports Day in Canada is one way we can all participate - whether we are playing one of our favourite sports, or taking up something completely new. It is about coming together in the spirit of sport with family and friends in our communities.
It is estimated that more than a million Canadians from coast to coast to coast will participate in this year's Sports Day in Canada. From open houses, to tournaments and try it days, this exciting day is a perfect opportunity to get out and active, while having fun.
On behalf of Prime Minister Stephen Harper and the Government of Canada, I commend ParticipACTION, True Sport and CBC/Radio Canada on presenting the third annual Sports Day in Canada. I encourage all Canadians to join me, along with many of our amazing Olympians, Paralympians, coaches and athletes, in making this the best Sports Day in Canada yet.
