Statement by the Honourable James Moore, Minister of Canadian Heritage and Official Languages, on the Death of Raylene Rankin Français
OTTAWA, Sept. 30, 2012 /CNW/ - It was with sadness that I learned of the passing of great Canadian singer, Raylene Rankin.
Ms. Rankin started her music career as a member of the internationally acclaimed Celtic-country band The Rankin Family in 1989. The band was made up of Raylene and her four other siblings, all of whom grew up in the Cape Breton village of Mabou. The Rankin Family was together for ten years and sold more than 2 million records, won six Juno awards, three Canadian Country Music Awards and 15 East Coast Music Awards. Her musical talent charmed the nation.
On behalf of the Government of Canada, I would like to offer my condolences to the family and friends of Raylene Rankin and to Canada's musical community.
