Statement by the Honourable James Moore, Minister of Canadian Heritage and Official Languages, on the Occasion of the MuchMusic Video Awards

OTTAWA, June 17, 2012 /CNW/ - In communities throughout this country, talented artists are proving that our music scene is as rich and diverse as Canada itself. More than 30,000 singers, songwriters and composers call Canada home. Our music industry enriches our lives, creates jobs and generates economic growth.

Thanks to Canadian creativity, our country has earned itself a special place on the international scene. We rank as the third-largest exporter of musical talent in the world, and we are the seventh-largest market in the world for recorded music.

Our Government recognizes the importance of the music industry, and we are proud to support our artists who help showcase our culture at home and abroad.

Today, we are proud of talented Canadian musicians and performers being honoured at this year's MuchMusic Video Awards.
