Statement by the Honourable James Moore, Minister of Canadian Heritage and Official Languages, on the Presentation of the British Columbia National Award for Canadian Non-Fiction

VANCOUVER, Feb. 5, 2013 /CNW/ - Every year, the British Columbia Achievement Foundation celebrates excellence in Canadian non-fiction writing with the British Columbia National Award for Canadian Non-Fiction.

This year, the Award was presented to Modris Eksteins for Solar Dance: Genius, Forgery and the Crisis of Truth in the Modern Age.

Other finalists were George Bowering for Pinboy, Robert R. Fowler for A Season in Hell: My 130 Days in the Sahara With Al Qaeda, and Candace Savage for A Geography of Blood: Unearthing Memory from a Prairie Landscape.

Canadians can be proud of the talented writers who provide informative and thought-provoking works of non-fiction for readers across the country and around the world.

On behalf of Prime Minister Stephen Harper and the Government of Canada, I congratulate Modris Eksteins and the finalists for this year's British Columbia National Award for Canadian Non-Fiction and commend them on their contribution to Canadian culture. I also offer my thanks to the British Columbia Achievement Foundation for promoting and recognizing excellence in non-fiction writing in Canada.
