Statement by the Honourable James Moore, Minister of Canadian Heritage and Official Languages, on the Presentation of the Governor General's Performing Arts Awards

OTTAWA, March 6, 2012 /CNW/ - Arts and culture are essential to the strength of our communities and the growth of our economy. The many honours bestowed upon our artists, both here in Canada and internationally, are a testament to our country's reputation for excellence and are a source of pride for us all.

Each year, the Governor General's Performing Arts Awards pay tribute to Canadians who have delighted us with their creativity throughout their careers in fields as diverse as dance, theatre, broadcasting, and film.

On behalf of the Government of Canada, I would like to thank the members of the Governor General's Performing Arts Awards Foundation for presenting these prestigious prizes. Congratulations to our creators for their contributions to the world of the performing arts.
