Statement by the Honourable Patty Hajdu, Minister of Employment, Workforce Development and Labour, on negotiations between CP Rail and the TCRC and IBEW Français
GATINEAU, QC, April 18, 2018 /CNW/ - Today, the Honourable Patty Hajdu, Minister of Employment, Workforce Development and Labour, issued the following statement regarding the collective bargaining negotiations between Canadian Pacific Railway, Teamsters Canada Rail Conference (TCRC) and the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW):
"This afternoon, I spoke with CP Rail President & CEO Keith Creel and TCRC President Doug Finnson, and will be speaking with the IBEW shortly, regarding their collective bargaining negotiations. All parties are remaining at the bargaining table to continue their discussions. I communicated my expectation that the parties will continue to negotiate in good faith and arrive at an agreement; Canada's continued economic success and many good middle class jobs depend on it.
Our Government has always supported a fair and balanced collective bargaining process, because it gets results. Federal mediators from the Federal Mediation and Conciliation Service (FMCS) are working closely with the parties in their negotiations. I have been closely monitoring the situation through the FMCS and will continue to do so."
