Statement by the Honourable Shelly Glover, Minister of Canadian Heritage and Official Languages, on the Occasion of the 2014 Jutra Awards Français
OTTAWA, March 23, 2014 /CNW/ - Quebec cinema had no shortage of top-notch films this year. Film buffs from here and from around the world were moved by the diversity of our cinema and by the immense talent of our creators.
The Jutra Awards give us an opportunity to pay tribute to our artists and artisans. It is also the ideal time to tell them we are very proud of them and their films.
The sheer number of films submitted to the jury - 173 short- and medium-length fiction films, 39 feature-length fiction films, 36 short- and medium-length animated films, and 29 feature-length documentaries - speaks to the vitality of our film industry.
I would like to congratulate Micheline Lanctôt, the recipient of the Jutra Award for Lifetime Achievement. This remarkably talented woman has been enriching our audiovisual landscape for decades as an actress, director, screenwriter and producer.
On behalf of Prime Minister Stephen Harper and the Government of Canada, I congratulate all the finalists and winners of the 16th edition of the Jutra Awards.
