Statement by the Honourable Shelly Glover, Minister of Canadian Heritage and Official Languages, on the Presentation of the 12th Annual Alliance of Canadian Cinema, Television and Radio Artists (ACTRA) Awards in Toronto Français
TORONTO, Feb. 22, 2014 /CNW/ - I am very pleased to congratulate ACTRA Toronto's award nominees and winners for 2014.
ACTRA Toronto pays tribute to the actors who play such an important role in the success of the Canadian television, film and radio industry. This year's nominees represent a wide range of outstanding Canadian English audiovisual programming, which speaks to the vitality of the sector and our culture.
R.H. Thomson received this year's Award of Excellence for his exceptional body of work. Over the last 30 years, he has demonstrated his abilities in many film, television and theatre roles. In 2010, Mr. Thomson was awarded the Order of Canada.
I am very proud of everyone who has contributed to the success of our audiovisual industry and pleased that our Government is supporting it. Each year, we invest more than $600 million in this sector through Telefilm Canada, the National Film Board, the Canada Council for the Arts and tax credits.
On behalf of the Government of Canada, I would like to commend ACTRA on the work it does to promote and celebrate artistic excellence.
