OTTAWA, April 28, 2019 /CNW/ - The Prime Minister, Justin Trudeau, today issued the following statement on Orthodox Easter:
"Today, we join people of the Eastern Orthodox, Oriental Orthodox, and Eastern Catholic faith in Canada and around the world to mark Easter, also known as Pascha.
"The holiest day of the year for Orthodox Christians, Easter is a time of hope and new beginnings, as families and loved ones gather to celebrate the resurrection of Jesus Christ.
"This joyful occasion is a time to celebrate the triumph of light over darkness. It's a chance to give thanks for the many blessings we enjoy in life, and to show compassion to those in need.
"I encourage all Canadians to reflect on the important contributions that Canadians of Orthodox Christian faith make to our country. Each day, Orthodox Christians from coast to coast to coast help build a better Canada.
"On behalf of our family, Sophie and I wish a happy Easter to all those celebrating today."
