OTTAWA, Nov. 4, 2017 /CNW/ - The Prime Minister, Justin Trudeau, issued today the following statement to mark the anniversary of the birth of Guru Nanak Dev Ji:
"On this day, we join Sikh communities in Canada and around the world to celebrate the birth of Guru Nanak Dev Ji, founder of Sikhism.
"Guru Nanak Dev Ji fought against discrimination and prejudice, and preached a message of 'equality for all,' regardless of religion, background, or gender.
"His teachings of unity and openness are just as relevant today. They remind us that diversity is a strength, and that all of us have a role to play to make our world more just and inclusive.
"Today, Sikh Canadians continue to honour and uphold these important values, and their contributions help make Canada a stronger country and a better place.
"On behalf of our family, Sophie and I offer our warmest wishes to everyone celebrating the anniversary of the birth of Guru Nanak Dev Ji."
