OTTAWA, Sept. 18, 2018 /CNW/ - The Prime Minister, Justin Trudeau, today issued the following statement on Yom Kippur:
"Tonight at sundown, Jewish communities in Canada and around the world will come together to mark the start of Yom Kippur, the Day of Atonement.
"Yom Kippur marks the end of the Ten Days of Repentance. To honour the occasion, families and friends will fast and attend prayer services to seek forgiveness. Yom Kippur is a time of repentance and reflection, and a chance to set intentions for the year to come.
"Today is also a time to honour the Jewish Canadian community. We celebrate the important contributions Jewish Canadians have made to our country, and the major role the Jewish community continues to play in shaping a better Canada.
"On behalf of our family, Sophie and I would like to wish everyone observing Yom Kippur a G'mar Chatimah Tovah."
