Statement from Andrea Horwath on Day of Mourning
TORONTO, April 28, 2012 /CNW/ - "New Democrats join with workers across Ontario to mark this Day of Mourning. We stand with friends and family to remember those who suffered injury and those who lost their lives on the job.
We all have a responsibility to make sure that when the workday ends, every worker makes it home safely. We must honour our obligations to injured workers who labour for the good of our province.
Any injury, any death in the workplace is one too many. This year we've seen tragic events on the construction site, on the factory floor, in the field and underground. Families in the north, across the industrial heartland, in rural areas and in our cities are left to pick up the pieces when loved ones are suddenly taken away on the job.
Every Ontarian has the right to earn a living safely. Every full-time, part-time, contract, or student worker is entitled to the same protection. Every family has the right to peace of mind. New Democrats are committed to strong safety regulations and enforcement. We're committed to working across party lines, with unions and safety specialists, with the WSIB and employers to make the workplace safer for every Ontarian.
We can't stop until workplace accidents stop."
