Statement from Dr. Chris Simpson, President of the Canadian Medical Association on a National Pharmaceutical Program Français
OTTAWA, Aug. 27, 2014 /CNW/ - The Canadian Federation of Nurses Unions, Canadian Doctors for Medicare and the Canadian Union of Public Employees is absolutely correct in calling for a national program to address the patchwork quilt of public drug coverage that currently exists in Canada. While many Canadians have supplementary insurance to offset costs of needed prescription drugs, we know that too often seniors and other Canadians with insufficient coverage are being forced to forego filling their prescriptions due to cost. We must ensure that every Canadian has timely access to safe and effective prescription medication and that no one is deprived of prescription drugs because of an inability to pay. This is critical to transforming our health care system to meet the growing and evolving needs of our aging population.
