Statement from Maple Leaf Foods Regarding Courtland Avenue Plant
KITCHENER, ON, Sept. 12, 2014 /CNW/ - The Maple Leaf Foods plant on Courtland Avenue in Kitchener remains open and in production. An incorrect report on Waterloo radio station 570 News stated the plant was closing today. The radio station has since corrected its report.
The company has announced the eventual closing and decommissioning of the facility, but that is not expected to happen until later this year. Maple Leaf continues to work with the community and employees to support their transition to other employment. Approximately 600 people continue to work at the Courtland Avenue facility.
