OTTAWA, May 22, 2017 /CNW/ - Today, the Honourable Ralph Goodale, Minister of Public Safety and Emergency Preparedness, made the following statement regarding flooding in Mud Lake, Newfoundland and Labrador:
"I have received a request for assistance from the Government of Newfoundland and Labrador regarding the flooding situation. On behalf of the Government, the Minister of National Defence, the Honourable Harjit Sajjan and I have accepted this request for federal assistance to help temporarily displaced citizens in need.
The Government Operations Centre has dedicated staff working to coordinate the federal response to flooding. Officials are working closely with federal and provincial partners to plan the details of this assistance, which will include support from the Canadian Armed Forces to address the immediate need for accommodations for displaced persons.
I continue to encourage impacted residents to follow the directions and advice of their municipal law enforcement and first responders. On behalf of all Canadians, I would like to thank all of the first responders and organizations who work tirelessly to help their fellow citizens in times of need.
The Government of Canada, through the Government Operations Centre, continues to monitor and assess the national flooding situation."
