Statement from Minister of Public Services and Procurement and Accessibility Carla Qualtrough on the appointment of a new President and Chief Executive Officer of Canada Post Corporation Français
GATINEAU, QC, March 1, 2019 /CNW/ - As Minister responsible for the Canada Post Corporation, I am pleased to announce today the appointment of Doug Ettinger for a four-year term as President and Chief Executive Officer of the Corporation. His appointment is effective March 4, 2019.
The appointment fulfills a commitment to strengthening the leadership of the Corporation. Renewed leadership is a key component of our Government's new vision for Canada Post: providing Canadians with high-quality, accessible and affordable service, no matter where they live.
Mr. Ettinger will play a central role in working with Canada Post's board and leading its executive team in building a solid foundation for the Corporation's future success and prioritizing services to Canadians. He will also work toward building more constructive and collaborative relationships with employees, labour, communities and other stakeholders.
Mr. Ettinger brings to the position more than 30 years of experience in the consumer packaged goods industry with Canadian and global organizations, leading sales, marketing, and product management. Most recently, he served, since 2016, as Chief Commercial Officer for the Canada Post Corporation. In that role, Mr. Ettinger has led the Corporation's growing parcel business, and the full range of commercial functions, including sales, marketing, retail, digital, business development and customer service.
The combined knowledge and expertise of the renewed leadership team will help build Canada Post into an innovative, service-first organization that will continue to be financially sustainable and serve Canadians for decades to come.
I would also like to take this opportunity to thank Ms. Jessica L. McDonald, the Chair of the Corporation's Board of Directors, who has been acting as Canada Post's interim President and Chief Executive Officer, since April 2018.
Mr. Ettinger's appointment and the recent appointments to the Corporation's Board of Directors were made under our Government's new approach to Governor in Council appointments. This approach supports open, transparent and merit-based selection processes that strive for gender parity and reflect Canada's diversity, to support Ministers in making appointment recommendations for positions within their portfolio by providing them with information and referrals.
