Statement from NDP Leader Andrea Horwath commemorating Labour Day
TORONTO, Sept. 3, 2012 /CNW/ - New Democrat Leader Andrea Horwath issued the following statement commemorating Labour Day:
"On Labour Day, we celebrate what working people in Ontario and around the world have achieved and we dream of the better world we can build together.
"This spirit of optimism has brought us so much we take for granted: the weekend; the eight hour work day; health and safety protections for workers; the right to organize; better pay and benefits; and so much more.
"Today, we face many new challenges and we need that optimism and hope more than ever. Around the world, people are rejecting simplistic solutions that divide people. We need to work together for good jobs for all, safe workplaces, world-class healthcare, and an education system that allows students of all ages to pursue their dreams.
"My caucus and I wish everyone a happy Labour Day. We've earned a break today. Tomorrow, let's keep working together for a better world.
