Statement from the Canadian Paralympic Committee regarding TO2015 and University of Toronto Back Campus Playing Fields
OTTAWA, June 12, 2013 /CNW/ - This afternoon the Canadian Paralympic Committee issued the following statement regarding Toronto City Council's vote on TORONTO 2015 Pan/Parapan American Games and the University of Toronto's Back Campus Playing Fields:
The Canadian Paralympic Committee is looking forward with great anticipation to the Toronto 2015 Parapan American Games to be held from August 7 to 14, 2015.
"The Canadian Paralympic Committee is pleased with Toronto City Council's decision today to not designate the Back Campus Playing Fields at the University of Toronto as a cultural heritage landscape.
This decision will allow the fields to be upgraded with synthetic turf, as originally planned, and to serve as the field hockey and para-soccer venues for the TO2015 Pan/Parapan American Games.
Developing the Back Campus Playing Fields will permit first class competition for the Games and leave a lasting legacy for the University of Toronto, its students and the community. This will be a great place for athletes and sport in downtown Toronto.
The Canadian Paralympic Committee thanks the City of Toronto, TO2015, Toronto City Councillors, sport partners, athletes and coaches for their support of this initiative."
- Gaétan Tardif, President, Canadian Paralympic Committee
