Statement from the Lieutenant Governor about the VIA train derailment

TORONTO, Feb. 27, 2012 /CNW/ - I was saddened to learn of the accident that took place on the afternoon of Sunday, February 26, when a VIA train derailed near Burlington.

As The Queen's representative and on behalf of the people of Ontario, I offer my sincere condolences to families who have lost loved ones. My prayers are with you, and with those who have been taken to hospital with injuries.

I offer my appreciation and commendation to the emergency response crews from Burlington, Hamilton, and Toronto who responded so swiftly to this crisis.
