Statement from the Police Association of Ontario with regard to Ombudsman André Marin

TORONTO, Aug. 28, 2013 /CNW/ - The Police Association of Ontario is appalled by the recent inappropriate actions of the Ombudsman of Ontario, André Marin, for which he has failed to take responsibility.  Mr. Marin went to significant lengths to wrongfully accuse and identify an innocent person - a police officer - and Mr. Marin continues to attempt to deflect attention away from his wrongful actions. 

"Mr. Marin's approach was slipshod and his attitude is cavalier. His behaviour is unacceptable, particularly coming from someone holding such a high position of public trust and authority.  Mr. Marin, of all people, knows there is a process in filing complaints for investigation.  If he had a concern, he should have followed that process. Instead, he publicly maligned an innocent person," says PAO President Dave McFadden. "He has a pattern of behaviour in which he seeks out the media spotlight, giving his emotional reactions and using inflammatory language."

The PAO believes Mr. Marin should be held accountable for his inappropriate conduct, which undermines public trust and confidence in the office of the Ombudsman.
