MONTREAL, May 15, 2012 /CNW Telbec/ - The Quebec English School Board Association (QESBA) acknowledges with surprise and regret the resignation of Line Beauchamp as Québec's Minister of Education, Recreation and Sports. Mme Beauchamp has dedicated some 15 years of her life to public service, and has brought to those years a level of rigour, intelligence and passion that are worthy of our admiration. QESBA has had its differences with her on occasion but was always invited to express them in a spirit of constructive collaboration. We thank her for that, and wish her well.
Mme Michelle Courchesne returns as Minister of Education, Recreation and Sports, a portfolio she successfully held from 2006 to 2010, garnering respect from the English public education community. We look forward to working closely with Madame Courchesne once again on the pressing issues of school board financing and democracy that are now before us. It is our hope that she and her government will be able to bring to a positive conclusion the very difficult conflict regarding post-secondary tuition fees so that other pressing priorities in education can be addressed with the energy and diligence they require.
QESBA is the voice of English public education in Quebec. Its nine member school boards serve some 105,000 students in elementary and secondary schools, adult and vocational centres.
