Statement of the Mayor in response to Westmount Mayor Peter Trent's decision to announce his resignation Français
MONTRÉAL, April 3, 2017 /CNW Telbec/ - Montréal Mayor Denis Coderre paid tribute to the remarkable contributions of Peter F. Trent as Mayor of Westmount since 1991.
"On behalf of all Montrealers, I thank Mr. Trent for everything he has done for them. This is an incredible man who has applied himself in municipal affairs heart and soul for over 25 years. We thank Peter Trent for his immense impact, not only as Mayor of Westmount, but as a member of the FCM, the UMQ, the CMM and the Montréal urban agglomeration," Mayor Denis Coderre noted.
Mayor Coderre said it was thanks to the leadership of Westmount's mayor that Montréal finally settled a long-standing dispute with the related municipalities over funding the Metropolis's downtown sector and over 2016 drinking water rates.
"It is not only a friend but a brother who is stepping down today. I wish him a wonderful retirement from Montréal politics and hope he enjoys a well-deserved rest after so many years of service to Westmount residents," Mayor Coderre concluded.
