MONTREAL, June 12, 2016 /CNW Telbec/ - "It is with dismay that we learned this morning that a mass shooting occurred last night at a gay club Orlando, killing 50 and leaving 53 wounded.
We strongly condemn this act of violence, the worst mass shooting in the history of the United States. On my own behalf and on behalf of all Montrealers, I express my deepest sorrow and sympathy to the families, relatives of the victims and the entire LGBT community. In these difficult times, Montrealers stand in solidarity with all Americans affected by this terrible tragedy. We share in this grief and in the struggle against all forms of violence. We offer them our full support.
On the eve of the first anniversary of the Declaration of Montreal, this tragic event reminds us of the importance of the work of mayors in the area of Living Together in support of inclusive, diverse and welcoming cities," said Denis Coderre, Mayor of Montreal.
As a gesture of solidarity, the rainbow flag will fly over Montreal City Hall.
