Statement on the arrest of suspects in connection with the murder of a Palestinian teenager
TORONTO, July 6, 2014 /CNW/ - The Centre for Israel and Jewish Affairs (CIJA) commented today on news that several Israelis have been arrested in connection with the murder of Mohammed Abu Khdeir.
"The Jewish community of Canada joins with the Israeli government and Jews worldwide in unequivocally condemning this appalling act of violence. There is no place within Jewish values for the vigilante-style murder of innocents. Just as we expect the Israeli authorities to mete out uncompromising justice in the horrific abduction and murder of the three Israeli teens, so too Israel's commitment to justice must be asserted and demonstrated in the case of the Palestinian youth at the centre of the arrests announced today," remarked David Koschitzky, CIJA Chair.
"We call on Israelis to respect the rule of law and resist pursuing any acts of revenge or vigilantism, just as we call on Palestinians to refrain from riots and acts of violence during this volatile period, so that authorities can do their work and so that justice can be done."
