Statement on the Passing of Rabbi Gunther Plaut

TORONTO, Feb. 9, 2012 /CNW/ - In response to news that Rabbi Gunther Plaut passed away yesterday evening, David Koschitzky, Chair of the Centre for Israel and Jewish Affairs, issued the following statement: 

"We were saddened to hear of the passing of Rabbi Gunther Plaut, who served as a forceful advocate on behalf of the Jewish people for decades. Rabbi Plaut held a particularly preeminent place in Canada's Jewish community, for which his leadership will be missed. We extend our heartfelt condolences to Rabbi Plaut's family, friends, and colleagues." 

The Centre for Israel and Jewish Affairs is a non-partisan organization that creates and implements strategies for the purpose of improving the quality of Jewish life in Canada and abroad, increasing support for Israel, and strengthening the Canada-Israel relationship.
