Statement regarding Porter FBO Limited strike
TORONTO, Jan. 9, 2013 /CNW/ - Porter Aviation Holdings Inc. is issuing the following statement after 22 employees of its subsidiary, Porter FBO Limited, indicated they are going on strike as of 12:01 a.m., January 10.
Porter FBO Limited provides services, including hangar and office space, to its tenants at Billy Bishop Toronto City Airport. It also supplies fuel to aircraft at the airport.
"Porter FBO Limited is committed to negotiating a fair contract with our team members.
We're disappointed that the union has chosen to walk away from the bargaining table and go on strike at the first opportunity, rather than focus its energy on negotiating a first contract for employees.
We can assure all passengers and airport tenants that regular service will continue. Porter Aviation Holdings Inc. has fully-trained and certified staff and management to safely serve in these roles on an ongoing basis. No Porter Airlines Inc. flights are affected.
Porter FBO Limited benchmarks its wages and benefits against both aviation and non-aviation companies to ensure we are competitive and will continue to do so. We also paid profit sharing to every team member for 2011's results. Our full compensation package is competitive.
Our philosophy through these negotiations has been to treat Porter FBO Limited team members as we do other groups, and we intend to maintain this approach as a principle of fairness.
The support of our team has allowed the company to grow significantly in more than six years of operation. This service-oriented culture will also help us to ultimately reach an agreement while continuing operations for our customers."
