OTTAWA, Feb. 25, 2016 /CNW/ - Within a year, Statistics Canada will release the first data from the 2016 Census. Data on population and dwelling counts will be released on February 8, 2017, launching an accelerated release schedule that will provide Canadians with all data in a more timely fashion than for any previous census.
In less than three months, Canadians across the country will be completing their 2016 Census questionnaires. By participating, they will become part of the new portrait of Canada.
For the first time, all census data will be released within 18 months of collection. In addition, in preparation for the population and dwelling release, key geographic information, including reference materials and boundary files, are scheduled for release on November 16, 2016.
Six official 2016 Census data releases are scheduled between February and November 2017.

Statistics Canada is making every effort to have census data released as quickly as possible, with the goal of providing decision makers access to the most recent and complete information.
Census information is important for all communities and is vital for planning services such as schools, daycare, police services and fire protection. Governments, businesses, and organizations across the country will use this information to shape our country for years to come.
