OTTAWA, June 15, 2018 /CNW/ - Digital technologies are significant drivers of productivity, innovation and competitiveness, and are constantly reshaping the Canadian economy. As the global economy shifts towards digitalization, Statistics Canada is conducting a new survey to fill important data gaps about Canadians' activities and participation in the digital economy.
The Digital Economy Survey is part of a larger effort to better understand how individual consumption and purchasing patterns are changing in an increasingly digitalized world. The survey will be conducted from June 15 to July 12, 2018. Respondent information will be kept strictly confidential; data are collected under the authority of the Statistics Act.
The survey will cover the use and purchase of various digital products, including music and video streaming services, e-books, mobile apps, and online gaming subscriptions. It will ask questions about digital payment options such as reward points, gift cards, and even cryptocurrencies such as Bitcoin.
The survey will also examine ways of earning money from digital platforms and apps, including peer-to-peer ride sharing or accommodation services and online bulletin boards.
Survey results will be released in fall 2018.
