CALGARY, Jan. 25, 2012 /CNW/ - The Honourable Rona Ambrose, Minister of Public Works and Government Services and Minister for Status of Women, congratulates Nancy Southern, Chief Executive Officer of ATCO Group, on being recognized by Alberta Venture as Alberta's Business Person of the Year for 2011.
"Women are a driving force in the Canadian economy and I am delighted today to celebrate one of the frontrunners, an Alberta-grown success story," said Minister Ambrose. "As CEO of the highly successful ATCO Group, Nancy Southern is a respected leader in Alberta's business community and an excellent role model for established as well as aspiring Canadian business people, both women and men."
Minister Ambrose acknowledged Ms. Southern's contributions at a reception in her honour.
The award recognizes Ms. Southern, President, CEO and Deputy Chair of ATCO Limited and Canadian Utilities Limited, for "her leadership, business savvy, passion and commitment to the community." At the reception in Calgary, Ms. Southern delivered the keynote address, "Canada's Opportunity in 2012 and Beyond."
