OPG reminds everyone to keep water safety a top priority
TORONTO, Sept. 3, 2015 /CNW/ - Ontario Power Generation (OPG) operates 65 hydroelectric dams throughout the province – all of which help to provide clean energy. But water at and near its operations and dams can be dangerous.
With Labour Day approaching, OPG is reminding everyone to take extra caution near hydroelectric facilities and all waterways.
"The end of summer is a great time to get outside and enjoy the last bit of warm and sunny weather," says Mike Martelli, Senior Vice President of OPG's Hydro Thermal Operations. "But everyone should continue to be cautious around hydro stations and dams. The water in these areas can turn dangerous in seconds."
Martelli also reminds people to "obey the warning signs, and respect fences, booms and barriers. They're there for your safety".
Make the most of the final long weekend of summer, and please remember to Stay Clear, Stay Safe. To learn more about water safety, please visit opg.com/watersafety and www.stayclearstaysafe.ca.
