Stay off the roads, CAA warns

THORNHILL, ON, Dec. 11 /CNW/ - CAA is warning motorists to stay off the roads in the Walkerton and Kincardine areas to due to blizzard-like conditions.

"Many roads in the area are impassable," said Jason Ballantyne , manager of communications for CAA South Central Ontario. "Our message today is simple - stay off the roads for your safety."

Snow, whipped by high winds, is hammering Kincardine, Saugeen Shores and Southern Bruce County. All three areas are under continuing snow squall warnings.

CAA's service vehicles in the area have been affected the same as all other vehicles.

CAA is servicing priority calls on highways before members who are stuck at home in their driveways, due to safety issues. As of 11:30 a.m. this morning, wait times in the Kincardine, Saugeen Shores and Southern Bruce County areas vary depending on the location of the member. Higher-priority calls are being serviced as soon as possible.

"While we can appreciate a long wait time for service may be frustrating to members stuck in their driveways, we will in no way compromise the safety of those who are stuck on the sides of highways. Those high-priority calls are our main focus right now," Ballantyne said.

CAA is also asking members to make sure their driveways are clear so service drivers can have access to their vehicles. Vehicles not dug out will not be towed.

If members have to use a service provider other than CAA, reimbursement based on membership coverage will be considered.
