VANCOUVER, April 3, 2013 /CNW/ - Steamworks Brewing Company ushers in the warmer weather with the release of its Saison, a lively farmhouse style ale originating in Belgium. Saison is an emerging style of beer to the BC Craft beer market that is being embraced by Craft beer lovers as their palates graduate from wheat ales, seeking more depth and layers in flavour profile.
The Saison is the inaugural release for Steamworks' new brewmaster Caolan Vaughan. "It's one of my favourite styles of beer and an ideal release for this time of year." says Caolan (Kee-Lan). "This ale is brewed with the same Dupont yeast strain used for centuries of brewing in Europe."
In keeping with Steamworks whimsical bottle designs, the Saison bottle is an homage to the Burrard Street Bridge and its sometimes controversial relationship with bikes.
Steamworks Saison is on shelves in B.C. Government Liquor Stores as well as privately licensed retail stores in 650 ml bottles ready for you to take home and enjoy.
Tasting Notes: This well-balanced ale is a quirky compliment to its countryside roots. This beer has herbal hop characters blended with lively carbonation. Without being overwhelming, the unique Belgian yeast flavour provides crisp peppery notes with a hint of sweetness from orange, lemon zest and cloves.
Food Pairings: The spicy side of saison makes it a great partner for aromatic Asian dishes. The peppery and fruity yeast character provides both complement and contrast to bold and lively Asian-style flavours.
Saison also harmonizes well with delicate triple crème cheeses, like St. Andre cheese. The Spicy, fruity, and earthy flavors in the beer latch on to the rich, earthy tang of the cheese, while being fizzy enough to clean your palate as you go.
