HAMILTON, ON, June 20, 2014 /CNW/ - A $9,000 donation from area Steelworkers on Monday will help Hamilton Food Share kick off its annual summer campaign to help feed the working poor, the homeless and the disadvantaged.
WHO: | Hamilton Food Share and USW Hamilton Area Council |
WHAT: | Hamilton Food Share Campaign kickoff and $9,000 donation |
WHEN: | Monday, June 23, 11 a.m. |
WHERE: | USW Hall, 1031 Barton Street East, Hamilton |
"We decided many years ago that we could help make a difference by supporting Hamilton Food Share," says Darren Green, United Steelworkers (USW) Area Council President.
"We recognize the great work they do to help people in our community who need help, especially at a time of year when giving often gives way to summer vacations."
The USW will help kick off the Food Share campaign by presenting a $9,000 donation Monday at 11 a.m. at the Steelworkers Hall. The money was raised through the Rick Woods Memorial Golf Tournament, held in honour of the late, dedicated activist from USW Local 5328 who made a difference in the lives of many in his community.
"Steelworkers believe in community building and our partnership with Hamilton Food Share is one way we do it," says USW Area Co-ordinator Tom Walsh.
"Knowing that summer is a slow time for food bank donations, Steelworkers want to make sure that no one in our community is going hungry."
