Steelworkers Negotiate New Deal at Basin Custom Machining
SUDBURY, ON, Oct. 29, 2012 /CNW/ - United Steelworkers (USW) members employed at Basin Custom Machining Ltd. have ratified a new, three-year collective agreement with the Sudbury machine shop.
The new contract was ratified today, two days prior to the expiry of the existing collective agreement. Ten members of Steelworkers Local 2020 are covered by the new contract, which will be in effect until Oct. 31, 2015.
The agreement includes a pay increase totaling 7.5 per cent over the three-year term, as well as improvements in benefits.
"Our members were committed to negotiating a fair deal for both themselves and their employer," said USW Staff Representative Marc Ayotte. "We're pleased we were able to accomplish our goal and that the workers and the company can move forward together."
Basin Custom Machining provides specialized manufacturing and repair work for mining equipment and related components, hydraulic cylinders and driveshafts as well as specialized welding, fabricating, machining and other services.
