TORONTO, July 23, 2014 /CNW/ - Professional hockey player and Coca-Cola Canada athlete, Steven Stamkos, took the opportunity to share a special moment of hockey happiness with fans and members of Special Olympics Canada's 2013 World Games silver-medal winning floor hockey team today in Toronto. As part of Coca-Cola's Share a Coke program, and to recognize the team's achievements at the 2013 World Winter Games, Stamkos and Special Olympics athletes showed off their hockey prowess to spectators and fans alike.
"It's great to be in my hometown with Coca-Cola, local hockey fans and members of Special Olympics Canada's floor hockey team," said Stamkos from the event in downtown Toronto. "Whether it's a game of shinny or an organized sporting event, hockey is a sport that brings people together - whether they're playing or cheering on from the sidelines."
The event was part of Share a Coke - Coca-Cola's summer campaign that has the company swapping its logo for 290 of Canada's most popular names. Coca-Cola has put names on bottles so people can have fun finding the names of family and friends - or finding a name and sharing a Coke with someone they haven't seen in a while, someone they want to meet, someone they miss, love, have a crush on… and so on.
"Today's event was the perfect representation of our Share a Coke message," said Sonia Bongiorno, Senior Marketing Manager, Coca-Cola Ltd. "Share a Coke is about spending time with loved ones and enjoying special moments of happiness together. Steven is such an inspiration to young athletes and fans and we're thrilled that he could be here today to share a Coke and a moment with all of us."
