Stoney Creek dentist Dr. Victor Kutcher is the new president of the Ontario Dental Association

His mission – to help dentists deliver top-notch patient care through a strong Association

TORONTO, June 1, 2015 /CNW/ - After a car accident that partially sidelined him from his dental practice in 2008, Dr. Victor Kutcher found himself with extra time on his hands. He had been involved in organized dentistry to some degree throughout his career – both on the local and provincial level – so he decided, in 2010, to put his name forward for a position on the Board of Directors of the Ontario Dental Association. Dr. Kutcher hoped that it would keep him occupied while he attempted to deal with his injuries.

Five years later, he takes the helm as the new President of the Ontario Dental Association (ODA), the professional association that represents almost 9,000 dentists in Ontario. His one-year term begins June 1.

A member of the ODA for more than 35 years, Dr. Kutcher strongly believes in the value that organized dentistry brings to the profession – and to the people of Ontario. "Dentistry is seeing more challenges today than in the past: government-sponsored dental programs that are not adequately funding care for underprivileged kids and seniors who need it most, corporate practice models, scope of practice challenges, and others," he says.

Dr. Kutcher believes that strengthening the ODA – and the profession – from within will ultimately improve patient care. "Our mission is to support our diverse membership in their pursuit of professional and clinical excellence," says Dr. Kutcher. "When we provide dentists with the best resources and tools to practise successfully, they can focus on giving the best care they can to their patients."

For more than 30 years, Dr. Kutcher has given his best care to his patients at his practice. Some of his patients are the third generation to sit in his dental chair. The loyalty he inspires comes from the trust and value he has worked hard to cultivate in his practice.  "As a dentist, one has to do what's right for your patients – listen to all their concerns, talk with them about their health and involve them in their treatment options."

Doing right for all patients is the underlying force that drives Dr. Kutcher. And advocating for accessible and sustainable optimal oral health for all Ontarians is easier with a unified voice. "There are many individual dentists who do a great deal for their patients and their communities, but they can only do so much," says Dr. Kutcher. "The ODA is a force of almost 9,000 members – we can accomplish much more together than we can alone."
