Stony Mountain Amputee's story inspires kids at War Amps Winnipeg seminar
today
WINNIPEG, Aug. 21 /CNW Telbec/ - Having lost part of his left leg in a lawnmower accident at the age of five, Tom Rinn of Stony Mountain remembers well the challenges of growing up as an amputee.
Today at 1 p.m. in the West Ballroom of the Fairmont Winnipeg Hotel (2 Lombard Place), he will tell child amputees attending The War Amps 2010 Western Child Amputee (CHAMP) Seminar his inspiring story.
Tom enrolled in CHAMP shortly after his accident. He attended many CHAMP seminars and was a Safety Ambassador with The War Amps PLAYSAFE float in Morden's Corn & Apple Festival parade. He will describe with candour and humour life as an amputee and how he overcame the bumps in the road to be the success he is today. A University of Manitoba graduate, Tom, now 28, is married with a young daughter, works as a financial planner and has won numerous world championships as part of Team Canada in standing amputee ice hockey. His talk today is in keeping with the seminar's theme - Growing Up With CHAMP. This year marks the Program's 35th anniversary.
