TORONTO, April 4, 2013 /CNW/ - Strata Minerals Inc. (TSXV: SMP) ("Strata" or the "Company") is pleased to announce further results from the Company's Phase 1 exploration program at its 80% owned Cardabia Phosphate Project (the "Cardabia Project") located near Exmouth in Western Australia.
Since initial results from Strata's Cardabia Project were announced on December 20, 2012, a further eleven holes have been analysed. An illustration outlining the location of all 74 holes drilled in the Phase 1 exploration program and the location of all sixteen holes analyzed to date is provided in Figure 1 below and available on the Company's website at www.strataminerals.com.
Sizing and XRF assay sample results received for all holes tested to date are provided in Table 1 below and available on the Company's website.
A lithological interpretation of the additional eleven new holes referenced above is presented in Figure 2 below and available on the Company's website.
"These results provide further confirmation of the presence of a shallow sedimentary unit hosting P2O5 within mineralized zones totaling approximately 0.5-2.0 meter in thickness. The unit is observed to reach its easterly extent and outcrop along a northeast-southwest trend of some 20 km in the southeastern section of the Cardabia tenements, and dips gently to the west. In head grade samples with sufficient mass to the +1mm fraction, the coarse material averaged 22.7% P2O5 for all results to date", said Peter Kozicz, President & CEO.
The Company's technical team has initiated work on a preliminary geological model using assay data and geological logs from holes drilled to date. Results from this exercise will help guide the team's recommendations going forward.
In addition to testing for P2O5, Strata's geochemical analysis of drillhole samples has included testing for SiO2, Fe2O3, Al2O3 and U3O8. The results indicate that SiO2, Fe2O3 and Al2O3, as contained in the tested samples, are amenable to being reduced within suitable ranges by conventional means of phosphate processing. Testing for U3O8 has demonstrated that it is within acceptable limits for a phosphate product. Future testing to re-confirm the benign results of historic analysis for other potentially deleterious elements such as cadmium, sulphur and fluorine will be undertaken in due course.
In the meantime, Strata's metallurgical activities in connection with the Phase 1 program at Cardabia will focus on the completion of QEMSCAN test work to evaluate the mineralogical and petrological properties of representative samples of drillhole material within the mineralized zone at Cardabia. In addition, Strata will proceed with the extraction of a two tonne bulk sample from Cardabia in preparation for further larger scale metallurgical testing.
Studies on the Phase 1 exploration program samples analyzed to date, indicate that the course material upgrades favourably using physical beneficiation. However, approximately 50% of the phosphate material which is hosted within the -1mm mass is not susceptible to physical beneficiation. The purpose of the QEMSCAN test work and the bulk sample preparation is to assess the potential for a chemical process to liberate P2O5 from the -1 mm fraction.
Complete results from the Phase 1 exploration program at Cardabia are now expected to be completed and released before Strata's year-end in June. This completion date is a quarter later than originally expected due to unforeseen delays in executing the complicated geochemical test work protocol designed for Cardabia. With a fifth of drill samples now processed and the protocol for Cardabia fully implemented, the Company is confident that it will achieve its new deadline for completion of the Phase 1 exploration program.
