Strengthening Cognitive Capacities: Eaton Arrowsmith Academy and Eaton Cognitive Improvement Centre opening in Redmond, WA September 2014
"I always had big dreams of what my life would consist of. I had this constant feeling that I had all the parts of the puzzle but my hands didn't know how to put the puzzle together. This created a lot of frustration and sadness. Through this program I feel that my hands are starting to know where to put the pieces. Building a puzzle seems to feel much better than just carrying it around."
REDMOND, WA, Aug. 19, 2014 /CNW/ - Using the Arrowsmith Program, Eaton Arrowsmith Academy and Eaton Cognitive Improvement Centre, will open in Redmond, WA at 17946 NE 65th Street in September 2014. Eaton Educational Group, based in Vancouver, Canada, brought the Arrowsmith Program out west from Toronto over 10 years ago now. The group works with students and adults of all ages with mild, moderate and severe learning difficulties, helping them to retrain their brains for learning by strengthening their learning capacities as opposed to accommodating for their challenges and viewing learning difficulties as life long sentences. The result - independent learners who can dare to dream once again.

The Arrowsmith Program is based on the concept of neuroplasticity, the fact that the brain can change and grow when sufficiently and specifically stimulated, in this case with targeted cognitive exercises. Over the course of 3-4 years our students are able to transition back to more typical school and workplace settings with greatly reduced to no need for academic or social learning assistance.
In order to make the Arrowsmith Program even more widely understood and available (it is now available in 65 schools worldwide, having started in Toronto over 30 years ago now), the new Redmond site, in conjunction with both the University of Washington and the University of British Columbia, is embarking on a research study which for the first time ever will look at the functional and physical changes that occur in the brains of students as they work through their programs at Eaton Arrowsmith Academy (and Eaton Arrowsmith School in Vancouver). This study has been supported, in part, by Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella and his family.
Upcoming information sessions for parents and professionals August 20th and 21st, 6:30-8pm at the Old Redmond School House, Room 104.
