MONTRÉAL, Jan. 30, 2015 /CNW Telbec/ - After nearly 30 trips to the bargaining table in a negotiation process that has been dragging on since September 2013, members of the non-teaching personnel section of the Syndicat des enseignantes et enseignants de Villa Maria – CSN have decided to protest the obstinacy of management by staging a one-day walkout.
"Job cuts, employee lay-offs, colleagues leaving without being replaced, duties being contracted out— we've seen at least a dozen cases of this," said union president Mathieu Morin.
"The most recent one was last week when management told an employee who wanted to return to work after a sick leave that she is being laid off, even though her job is still there," he denounced.
Management has shown flagrant disregard for staff members devoted to the students of Villa Maria High School. "Our members want respect, their jobs and a fair collective agreement. It is high time for management to start negotiating in good faith and show willingness to reach a settlement that is satisfactory to our members," Mr. Morin concluded.
