Strike Deadline Postponed for Loblaws Great Food and Superstore Workers; Members to Vote on Amended Offer
TORONTO, July 3, 2015 /CNW/ - Two days of intensive negotiations between UFCW Canada Local 1000A and Loblaw Companies Ltd resulted today in an amended offer.
The parties returned to the negotiating table on July 2 at the request of an Ontario Ministry of Labour Mediation Officer.
To provide members with the opportunity to examine and vote on the amended offer, Local 1000A has postponed the strike deadline of Sunday, July 5.
Should this amended offer be rejected, the strike will commence on Saturday, July 11 at 12:01 a.m. at all 60 Loblaws Great Food and Superstore locations across the province.
Ratification votes are being scheduled across the province from Sunday, July 5 through to and including, Wednesday, July 8.
Local 1000A represents approximately 12,000 members working at Loblaws Great Food and Superstores across Ontario.
The union is asking members to check with their individual store for their schedule of work for the upcoming week commencing Sunday.
At the request of the Mediation Officer, all parties will not communicate any further with the media at this time.
Negotiations began in February 2015.
In May 2015, the membership voted 97 per cent in favour of a strike if a fair contract is not reached.
The union's agreement is with Loblaws Supermarkets Ltd and covers 60 Loblaws Great Food and Superstores and two stand-alone Joe Fresh stores.
UFCW Canada Local 1000A represents nearly 30,000 workers across Ontario.
