Student Life Network's Virtual Prom a Massive Success
CIBC helped students celebrate with a donation of $150,000 to Kids Help Phone.
TORONTO, May 26, 2020 /CNW/ - It was a night to remember on Friday as students across Canada came together to celebrate prom online and raise money for Kids Help Phone.
Over ten thousand students participated by dancing along on TikTok, sharing photos to Instagram, and tuning into the live broadcast. We are thankful to CIBC for their support as lead sponsor of the event, and incredible supporter of Kids Help Phone, providing a donation of $150,000 to support Kids Help Phone's immediate response to COVID-19.
Rob Assimakopoulos, Chief Marketing Officer from CIBC had this to say about the event, "After all the hard work, dedication, and hours of studying that students pour into their high school years, signing off with a big, memorable celebration is the most fitting way to close one chapter and kick off the summer before they begin their next adventure. Congratulations to all 2020 grads!"
The event had been in the making for two months and was only made possible with the assistance of a specially-assembled National Prom Committee. These 36 students, representing every province and the territories, were front and center in all the event's promotions and festivities.
Rubaina Farin from our National Prom Committee said this about the incredible experience, "It's a senior year experience I didn't anticipate. And though I'll look back on it with curiosity, I've also learned how to adapt and stay connected during uncertain times. I am forever grateful to have been part of an amazing national event and hopefully, I'll stay in contact with the other 35 students I got to work with."
Featuring all the prom classics (and a few incredible surprises), the event had prize giveaways, the crowning of a prom king and queen, and countless celebrity appearances from the likes of Justin Trudeau, Mitch Marner, Rick Mercer, Finn Wolfhard, and many more.
It wasn't the prom night that anyone expected, but that didn't stop thousands of Canadian high school students from coming together to support each other and make history.
