Students to Benefit from Access to 13,000 Online Courses with Launch of eCampus Ontario

eCampus offers easily accessible online courses and information from Ontario's universities and colleges.

TORONTO, Oct. 8, 2015 /CNW/ - Students will have more access to high-quality online university and college courses than ever before with the launch of eCampus Ontario, a user-friendly website that gives postsecondary students access to more than 13,000 online courses offered at Ontario's postsecondary institutions. 

Formally launched today by Training, Colleges and Universities Minister Reza Moridi, the portal is designed to help students find a range of online courses from universities and colleges, and discover quickly which institutions will recognize the credit.

For students, eCampus will provide:

• A seamless user-friendly experience to all course options and supports.
• More flexibility to learn wherever and whenever works best for them.
• Increased mobility through online courses that are recognized across multiple institutions.

These benefits to students are just the beginning – eCampus Ontario is further expanding collaboration between universities and colleges, and will ensure that more courses are brought online over time.

Bonnie M. Patterson, President and CEO of the Council of Ontario Universities, says Ontario universities are grateful to the Ontario government for supporting the development of the eCampus web portal. "This is an exciting initiative that will open up educational pathways to so many more students," Patterson says. 

"By offering more courses online and making it easier to transfer credits between institutions, eCampus is putting students at the centre. It's a marvelous example of how universities and colleges can work together for the benefit of students."

Quick Facts:

• All publicly assisted colleges and universities in Ontario are members of eCampus Ontario.
• The organization was incorporated as a non-profit organization in October 2014 and is governed by a board of directors made up of senior administrators from the college and university sectors, experts in online learning, and university and college students.
• The Ontario government is investing an additional $30 million over the next two years to support eCampus Ontario and the development of more foundational online courses that are transferable between colleges and universities.

The government allocated $22 million over the last two years to colleges and universities to develop online courses and has committed another $9 million this year.
