MISSISSAUGA, ON, Aug. 10, 2015 /CNW/ - Subaru Canada, Inc. (SCI) is pleased to announce the release of the 2016 Outback. Starting at the same price as the previous model year, $27,995, the 2016 Subaru Outback will be available in showrooms in August. The Subaru Outback continues to be a mid-size SUV alternative that provides car-like handling, yet the versatility of a much larger vehicle and the capabilities to make even the most adventurous drive feel unexpectedly civilized. These characteristics were scrutinized and confirmed by the Automobile Journalists Association of Canada (AJAC) last Fall, where the Subaru Outback was named as the Best New SUV/CUV (Under $35,000). Other accolades that the Subaru Outback proudly boasts are the ALG (formerly Automotive Lease Guide) Residual Value Award, Midsize Utility (2 row) Segment (for five consecutive years) and the Canadian Black Book Best Retained Value Award in the Mid-Size Car Category.
The Subaru Outback is available with two SUBARU BOXER engine options, a 2.5-litre 4-cylinder and 3.6-litre 6-cylinder. The engine options provide a perfect balance for consumers to select the best fit for their specific needs, both offering ample potency and mindful efficiency. The 2.5-litre engine, available with a Partial Zero Emission Vehicle (PZEV) option, is responsive and fuel efficient, returning 7.1 L/100 km during highway driving and 9.3 L/100 km in city driving conditions when equipped with the optional Lineartronic Continuously Variable Transmission (CVT). The Subaru Outback 2.5i continues to be offered with a 6-speed manual transmission as standard equipment. The PZEV equipment reduces smog-forming emissions to near zero without compromising performance. Capable of towing 1,360 kg, the 3.6-litre engine provides all the power needed to tackle any weather and road condition while achieving 8.6 L/100 km on the highway and 12.0 L/100 km in city driving. X-Mode continues to be available on all Lineartronic CVT equipped models of the 2016 Subaru Outback. X-Mode automatically takes control of the engine, Subaru symmetrical full-time AWD system and braking to help tackle the trickiest of conditions and increase the rugged capabilities of the Outback even further.
For the 2016 model year, all Outback trim levels come standard with wiper-linked automatic on/off headlights, which activate headlights if the wipers are on for more than 10 seconds, increasing the visibility of the Outback for the driver as well as to others on the road. The rearview parking guide now has a customizable on/off function for the guidelines, while a keyless entry lock and unlock chirp has been added to provide peace of mind. A refined electric rack and pinion steering creates the optimal road feel for the driver. Additionally, all Outback 3.6R trims have improved braking force as the result of a larger brake booster.
2016 Outback Touring Packages add an auto-dimming rearview mirror with Homelink and a larger clock and outside temperature display, as well as a Subaru Rear/Side Vehicle Detection (SRVD) off indication in the dash.
Outback 2.5i Limited and 3.6R Limited packages receive some updates to the 7-inch infotainment system. The infotainment unit is now Siri compatible for Apple iPhone users, and a set of SiriusXM additions are now included, along with a free 3-month basic trial subscription. SiriusXM Traffic and Travel Link are available on a subscription basis, while SiriusXM Advanced Audio Services are included. The suite of SiriusXM Advanced Audio Features include functions such as: instant replay, Smart Favourites (five stations that can record up to 30 minutes simultaneously and continuously overwritten), TuneStart (start a song from the beginning), Tune Scan (listen to the first six seconds of songs buffered from Smart Favourites), Featured Favourites (additional presets at the bottom of genre list menus), Channel Graphics (channel and category logos) and SXM Pics (still images coordinated with live audio content). Owners with a 2016 Subaru Outback model outfitted with the 7-inch infotainment system can also take advantage of the new SUBARU Map Update Program, which offers three free navigational updates over three years.
